The International Press Center (IPC), under the jurisdiction of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was opened in May, 2000 and aims to serve all resident or temporary foreign journalists and press officers of the foreign diplomatic corps in China.

The IPC has the following main responsibilities:

1.Arrange background briefings in various forms to keep foreign journalists and press officers of the foreign diplomatic corps in China informed of China's domestic and foreign policies.
2. Arrange visits and interviews for foreign journalists.
3. Process registration and cancellation of foreign journalists' accreditations, handling issuing and renewal of their press cards.
4. Provide printed and audio-visual materials and other information on China.
5. Facilitate and provide information for resident and temporary foreign journalists' work and life in China.
