A Reporting trip to Gaobeidian Township, Beijing on "Family and Community Development"

The International Press Center will arrange a reporting trip to Gaobeidian Township, Beijing on Friday, November 26th, 2004, with a focus on the situation of family and community development in China.

 

Detailed program as follows:

8:15   Departure from the parking lot of St. Regis Hotel

8:50  Arrival at Gaojing Village, Gaobeidian Township

9:00-10:00 Briefing on:

A. World Family Summit by the official from the National Population and Family Planning Commission

B. Family and community development: Beijing case, by the official from Beijing Municipal Population and Family Planning Commission

C. Family and community development: Gaojing Village Story

D. Q&A

 

10:00-12:00 Field trips

Group A: Service and care for vulnerable groups and families: elderlies home, subsidy and aid for poverty-stricken families, cares for the disabled, etc.

a.         Visiting elderlies home

b.         Visiting community service center: Philanthropic Supermarket(providing necessities for poverty-stricken families),health care,service for the disabled

c.         Interviewing villagers who have received aids and visiting their homes

 

Group B: Family health service and care, adolescent sex education.

a.  Visiting Dingfuzhuang Junior High School:  "Puberty and sex education" participatory class

b. Visiting village reproductive health service center, interviews with service providers

c. Visiting elderlies entertaining room

d. Visiting villagers' home

 

Group C: vocational guidance and services in the village, including skill training, job service for farmers with no lands in the process of urbanization, involvement of local NGOs and non-state enterprises in community development.

a.         Visiting vocational training and service center

b. Meeting with Villagers and migrants, on: women's employment, vocational service for migrant population, role of enterprises

c. Visiting villagers' home
