I am glad to inform you that the International Press Center (IPC) and Foreign Affairs Office of Guizhou Province will jointly organize a reporting trip to Guizhou for foreign correspondents in China from September 14th to 19th, 2006 (Please refer to the attached tentative itinerary for details). It is the first time for IPC to arrange such a trip to Guizhou since its establishment. During this trip, you will be invited to visit and live in Nanhu village of Miao ethnic minority group in the Southeast Qian Autonomous Prefecture of Miao and Dong Ethnic Minority Groups. It's a good chance to have face-to-face communications with Chinese farmers and learn something about building a New Socialist Countryside. You will also get chances to visit one of most important projects in West-East Electricity Transmission Project ――Guiyang Anshun Power Plant and a private pharmaceutical enterprise ――Guizhou Yibai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Officials from both the Guizhou provincial government and the cities related will meet you and answer your questions.

Expenses of the Reporting Trip

1. The airfare between Beijing and Guiyang will be self-covered. You are advised to book in advance Flight CA4162 (Beijing to Guiyang) on Sep.14th and Flight CA4161 (Guiyang to Beijing) on Sep 19th.

2. Lodging and Catering: RMB400yuan/Day × 4Day + RMB80yuan/Day × 1Day (live in farmers' Home or villiage inn) = RMB1680 yuan per person. Local transportation will be provided by the Foreign Affairs Office of Guizhou.

Background Materials

Guizhou Yibai Pharmaceutical CO Ltd

Guizhou Yibai Pharmaceutical C0 Ltd is a private hi-tech enterprise with staff members of 2,065 to engage in research, development, manufacturing and marketing of new-type medicines. Set up in June of 1995．the company completed its reform of stock holding system in November of 2005. In March 2004, the company officially went to public in the Shanghai Stock Exchange．

Production lines for capsule,tablet, syrup, injection and froze-dried powder have been passed GMP examination and up to advanced domestic standards. Cough control capsule,a main product, has enjoyed a good reputation in China.

The output of the company in 2005 amounted to 1.258 billion yuan, the sales income was 1.156 billion yuan and the tax was 140 million yuan.

Anshun Power Plant

Anshun Power Plant is a modem large-scale coal-fired power plant．Its designed installed capacity totals 2400 MW. The plant is planned to set up by three stages.

Phase l(2x300MW)was one of the key national projects during the period of the 9th 5-year plan. The investment totaled 30.1 billion yuan. N0.1 and N0.2 generating units were put into operation in December of 1998 and August 0f 1999 respectively．Phase 2 (2x300MW) belong to the second group of the project for the west to east electric power transmission, with an engineering budget of

2.56 billion yuan. No.3 and No.4 generating units were respectively put into use in April and August of 2003. The preparatory work of Phase 3(2x600MW) is under way.

Qiandongnan Prefecture

Locate in the southeastern part of Guizhou province, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture covers 30,300 area of square kilometers．The forest coverage rate is 53.68％. The prefecture has one city, fifteen counties and one provincial-1evel development zone．Living here are 47 ethnic groups with a population of 4.41 million (figure of 2005),such as the Miao,Dong, Han, Bouyei, Zhong, Shui, Yao, Tujia and other. The ethnic populations of the Miao and Dong are 1.59 million and 1.2 l million respectively. With a minority population of 3.61 million, the proportion of ethnic population is the largest among all the minority autonomous prefectures in China.

The City of Kaili

Kaili,the capital of Qiandongnan prefecture,is 176 kilometers away from Guiyang．The railway of Guiyang-Zhuzhou, the expressways of Kaili-Majiang and Kaili-Yuping,and the national highway N0. 320 all run through the prefecture. The waterway from the Qingshuijiang River flows into the Changjiang River via Dongting Lake. Under the jurisdiction, the city has ten towns or townships and five sub-district offices. The city covers 1 306 square kilometers with an urban area of 23.81 square kilometers．

The city has a total population of 450,000 with 74％for the ethnic minorities of which the Miao accounts for 63％．Therefore,Kaili is a city where many ethnic groups inhabit．

Nanhua Miao Village

Nanhua Miao village is 1 6 kilometers from Kaili city and only 6 km away from the east exit of the Kaili-Majiang expressway．The village has a MIao population of 811 in 181 households. The area of cultivated land of the village is 24 hectares and the forest area is 34 hectares. The forest coverage rate is 68.3％.
